From 23 July through 15 September 1999 the CARG participated in the NASA KWAJEX (Kwajalein Experiment)-TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) field study in the Marshall Islands. The CARG's Convair-580 research aircraft provided measurements of cloud microstructures for (a) comparisons with TRMM remote sensing measurements, (b) improving TRMM algorithms, and (c) providing data for testing and improving numerical models of tropical convective clouds.
