Flights On Which In-Situ Measurements Obtained While the ER-2 Aircraft was Flying Above

The Convair C-131A flew beneath the NASA ER-2 high-flying aircraft in order to obtain in-situ measurements in the smoke and clouds surveyed by the remote sensing instruments aboard the ER-2.

1693 25 Aug 1726 - 1854 14.4°S - 15.4°S 56.5°W - 58.6°W 1750 - 1854 14.0°S - 16.2°S 55.5°W - 58.0°W Thick smoke. C-131 obtained vertical profile to top of smoke. Good measurements with Valero radiometer above smoke. (See Hobbs' photo on Roll #2 photo #7 for uniform top to smoke layer.)
1694 27 Aug 1808 - 1830 14.4°S - 15.4°S 56.5°W - 58.6°W 1750 - 1854 14.0°S - 16.2°S 55.0°W - 57.5°W Uniform regional (aged?) smoke. C-131 obtained vertical profiles through two smoke layers.
1696 30 Aug 1500 - 1514 16.5°S - 16.8°S 56.5°W - 56.9°W 1500 - 1514 16.1°S - 16.6°S 56.5°W - 57.2°W C-131 obtained vertical profile over NASA sun-photometer and ER-2 passed overhead. Ac present. Good lidar data from C-131.

1715 18 Sep 1504 - 1506 11.7°S - 12.0°S 48.2°W - 48.3°W 1504 - 1506 11.7°S - 12.0°S 48.2°W - 48.3°W Transit flight of C-131A from Porto Nacional to Brazilia. C-131A pilot reported contacting ER-2 pilot flying overhead as ER-2 transited out of Brazil.
